Tidbits: Positive SSL for $8.50

I've used the CleanTalk.org plugin for several of my sites to protect against SPAM user accounts. I like their product!

They are now selling single-site SSL certificates for $8.50.

The equivalent single-domain certificate costs $75/year at GoDaddy (on sale in June for $60) and $24/year at ABCInc-Domains.

Here is my (successful) journey to purchase and install their certificates....

First, I logged into cleantalk.org and began the purchase process.

I completed the "CSR" request. The results were mailed to the address I entered into the CleanTalk "CSR" form.

Before leaving this part of the process, they asked me to select and verify an email address. I selected the "Postmaster@..." that every domain is supposed to have.

Next, I was directed to the shopping cart where I paid my $8.50 via credit card.

There were a couple more boxes to click through, then finally I was returned to the CleanTalk SSL Dashboard:

...and it did take the full 5 minutes before the instructions showed up in my inbox!

The next step was to verify the request and validate my email address. I was given a link to a Komodo site, and the email contained a code I had to copy/paste.

Finally! Two more emails arrived: 

#1 Subject: Your PositiveSSL Certificate for bayshoretownhomes.com. The email contained a ZIP attachment with these files:

• Root CA Certificate - AddTrustExternalCARoot.crt
• Intermediate CA Certificate - COMODORSAAddTrustCA.crt
• Intermediate CA Certificate - COMODORSADomainValidationSecureServerCA.crt
• Your PositiveSSL Certificate - bayshoretownhomes_com.crt

#2 Subject: Your COMODO SSL TrustLogo is ready! This last email is a followup sales message. It invites me to use their seal on my site.

(I skipped this, for now.)

Looking backwards, I realize that I needed to end up with two files. Along the way, I had to create a CSR file and verify two email addresses. The two files are:

1. Private Key
2. Certificate

Both are text files, marked with a -----BEGIN----- and an -----End-----. I copied the entire block, including the lines with the dashes and words into blank txt documents.

Back in cPanel, I opened the SSL/TLS Manager:

I pasted the certificate at the bottom of  the first email from COMODO and the private key that was created in the very beginning and mailed to as a .key file. I left the 3rd block blank.

Finally, I opened website using https:// and Viola it opened!! 

[ I suppose I should go in to modify WordPress settings.... but I'm not sure where. ]
