Blogging For Money!

I am a SCORE volunteer.  (See the menu link above.) I recently mentored someone who had a passion for writing, and wanted to eventually turn that passion into cash.

Here is my advice on...

How to Make Money Blogging

I had asked, "What does your workday look like one year from now?"

My question was to help that person imagine where they want to end up; how do they envision their day as a successful business person.

Writers have an innate drive to write; and writing without an audience is like (fill in your favorite analogy about spinning your wheels!).

That client wanted to write, and they'd wanted to earn money from doing that. I understand completely.

That may be where you are, too! If so, read on...

I recently heard someone say, “For you to have a business then somebody has to pay you money for something. If you’re not receiving money, then you do not have a business. You may have a hobby that soaks up a lot time, but it's not a business.

My role as a SCORE mentor is to encourage and support entrepreneurs, budding businesses.

That’s why my early questions were about who were the customers (audience), where do they hang out, how can they be reached, and what are they willing to pay?

I understand the writer's interest!

Blogging is one suggestion for making money online. It’s number 5 in a recent Entrepeneur.com article. It says, “If you're serious about making money online, start a blog. Blogging is one of the easiest and most sustainable income sources.” (Entrepreneur.com/article/299728)

Another website said that the #1 business idea for 2020 is build your own blog! (Adamenfroy.com/business-ideas)  The caveat is “if you’re serious” and the article provides a link that says “…starting a successful blog that actually makes a respectable amount of income is no easy feat.” (WanderlustWorker.com/how-to-start-a-blog-and-actually-make-money)

Next, I researched Google for “Blogs about Blogs.” Google.com/search?q=blogs+about+blogging

The first link was lengthy and contained valuable content about the subject. It was posted by the guy who said that blogging was the #1 business idea for 2020.

He said, “If you genuinely want to scale your blog like a startup, you need to remove writing almost entirely from the process,” and later he added “Before launching your blog, it’s crucial to choose your niche based not on passions, but three business factors: audience budget potential, professional leverage, and market demand.

My advice to you about blogging for money:

You’re on the right track, but to generate income I think you should change your perspective from personal satisfaction to business (a money mercenary).

Explore what people are asking about, then research the answers for them. Word the titles to paraphrase the question. Write short paragraphs and use short sentences.Be thorough!

PS: Neither this business blog at ABCInc.pw nor my personal blog at Jaggers.pw have generated any revenue, so I consider them as hobbies and an outlet for my writing!

  1. Hi! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and say I genuinely enjoy reading your blog posts. Can you recommend any other SEO in Low Volume Niche blogs that go over the same topics? Thanks a ton!
