WordPress Virtual Meetup Calendar ~ Redux

  WP User Groups
WP Meetup Meetings
Zoom Meetings

This calendar was originally posted in December 2020; I am reposting it so you can quickly find it.  It is still updated daily:

One positive benefit to come from the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic is that most WordPress user groups embraced the change to an online format. The challenge in 2021 will be whether - and how - to hold meetings with both online and in-person attendees.

The world-wide WordPress community has over a million users and more than a thousand groups.

Here is a calendar of some upcoming virtual meetings, mostly using Zoom and mostly in the US. Attendance varies from 5 to 50. Attendees have widely different levels of experience. Some people are saying to themselves, "Now what?" Other members are able to write code off the top of their head! Everyone willingly shares!

Update 2022: Kudos to Appleton, Wisconsin, for posting this on their "About" page. I suspect it's quoted directly from the WordPress.org website.
  1. WordPress Meetups are for the benefit of the WordPress community as a whole, not specific businesses or individuals. All actions that I take as an organizer are with the best interest of the community in mind.
  2. Membership in the local meetup group is open to all who wish to join, regardless of ability, skill, financial status or any other criteria.
  3. Meetups are volunteer-run with volunteer speakers. In cases where a modest attendance fee might be necessary, this fee should only cover the costs of the meetup and shouldn’t be used to pay speakers or organizers.
  4. Meetup groups allow events to be organized by any reliable/trusted member of the community.
  5. Meetups are welcoming places where everyone works to foster an accepting environment which is free of discrimination, incitement to violence, promotion of hate, and general jerk-like behavior.
...I am listing only meetups that have descriptions in English and ignoring those in other languages, such as Spanish. The times I see below are for Florida (Eastern Time Zone).

IMPORTANT: I maintain this calendar for my personal use, and it is NOT complete and NOT official. Use this as a starting place for discovering which user groups you would like to "visit."  I did not belong to these groups before Covid-19.

You can search Meetup.com for the topic "WordPress" to discover that there are over 1,500 WordPress user groups around the world. WordPress.org directly sponsors over half of those groups:   www.Meetup.com/pro/WordPress
(That last site shows a half million users and over 700 sponsored groups)

I found another website that maintains an online calendar of virtual events at WPCalendar.io that lists 1,132 WordPress "communities" in 110 countries. The home page gives you country filters.

I've met really nice people and I am exposed to different perspectives of WordPress tips and techniques!  I attended one meetup in December that motivated me to find a new analogy [I wrote about it at ABCInc.pw].

My biggest challenge is keeping the time zones straight. WP Meetups are initially listed in their local time zone, and often only after I add it to my personal (local) calendar I can make sense of the schedule. This is a public calendar, and you can link it to your own personal Google Calendar.

Please help me keep this current! You can write [To] Rick.Jaggers@abcinc.pw with the [Subject] "WP Meetup Info."
